Custom prize statue
A friend needed a cable organiser that could clip onto the back of a standing desk with an irregular edge profile.
# The Brief
The request came from a friend who had a standing desk with a curved back rail.
Standard cable clips wouldn't stay on, so he needed something custom.
He sent over the rail dimensions: 32mm wide, 18mm thick, with a 5mm inward lip on the top edge.
The organiser needed to hold 4–5 cables and be printable without supports.
# Steps Taken
1. Measured the rail profile from the photos and sketched a cross-section in Fusion 360.
2. Modelled a clip that hooks over the lip and grips the underside with a small flex tab.
3. First print in PLA — clip was too tight. Loosened the tolerance by 0.3mm.
4. Second print confirmed a solid fit. Added a cable channel with a press-fit lid on top.
5. Printed the final version in matte black PETG for durability and a cleaner look.
# Final Result
The organiser clips on and off without tools and holds up to 6 cables.
The client printed 4 more himself after I shared the file.
